NEWS & RESOURCES
La Gazette highlights the variety of stories happening in our French International School of Oregon community every day—from moments in the classroom and around campus, to service projects and off-campus activities.
Usually published monthly during the school year, La Gazette is shared via email with current families and staff. It can also be found in our website archive.
On March 3, French International celebrated Le Carnaval with parades, desserts, and dancing. Maternelle students created homemade masks and hats to wear as they paraded through the French International campus. The Beat Goes On marching band lead the way and Lower School and Middle School students lined the parade route to celebrate Le Carnaval.
February 17 was French International’s Caring Spirit Day and Random Acts of Kindness Day. Middle School parent volunteers put together ribbon pins of ten different colors representing different causes. Students and classes picked ribbons representing a cause they support.
One of the pillars of the French International Strategic Plan is Presence. French International is committed to bringing in speakers and experts to enhance the school’s program experience. On February 28, French International welcomed Will Hornyak who specializes in telling stories and teaching the art of storytelling to students.
Both Lower School and Middle School students competed in their respective Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) competitions this month. The competitions were a culmination of months of reading and preparing. The fifth-grade team, The Literature Legends, and the seventh-grade team, The Sauruses, took the school titles and will compete in regionals.
From February 4-24, French International had 13 students from Toulouse visiting. They stayed with seventh-grade host families and attended school. They did activities throughout Portland and the surrounding area. In a few weeks, the seventh-grade host students will visit Toulouse for three weeks.
This year, expression was the theme for February’s Arts and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Week. From storytelling to theatre to dance to coding, each participant had an opportunity to express themselves and learn new skills.
The Extended Learning department at French International manages several programs. They are in charge of Aftercare, Afterschool Explorers classes, Arts and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) weeks, and summer camps. In addition, the Extended Learning team supervises students during lunch and recess. This year, the Extended Learning team has lots of new faces, so this is an opportunity to get to know the team a little better.
We are shifting our regular Friday Mission Moments to Global Mindset Moments. We still want to show how our mission is playing out in the school and classroom, but we also want to show you how it relates to our new Strategic Plan.
